Very large numbers of sandhill cranes were present roosting on the west side of Big Salt Marsh on the north side of the refuge by this time. I photographed several small flocks in the fields about 2 to 3 miles northwest of the roost site near the intersection of 170th St. and 90th Ave. The sun was hiding behind a thick deck of high cirrus clouds late in the afternoon towards sunset, so the light wasn't the best.
