| | Location: Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, MO
Shoot type: Wildlife # of images: 19 | Synopsis: This was my one visit to the refuge in Winter 2016-17. I made the trip to Kansas City for New Years and decided to spend a day shooting Bald Eagles, among other avian wildlife as the weather forecast looked promising for a good shoot. This was certainly the case, especially in the morning despite early morning temperatures in the mid 20s. The hottest activity was at the Cattail Pool on the east side of the refuge drive, where a majority of my keepers from the day were shot of Bald Eagles, Mallards, and Trumpeter Swans

| | Location: Pottawatomie State Fishing Lake #2, Kansas
Shoot type: Wildlife # of images: 2 | Synopsis: A Lewis's Woodpecker, which is considered rare in Kansas (especially anywhere east of far southwestern Kansas), was first reported in late November and was hanging around the campground at Pottawatomie State Fishing Lake just east of Manhattan. I made a day trip out of it (four hours one-way), and I photographed this bird for about an hour after the sky cleared out in the early afternoon.

| | Location: My backyard
Shoot type: Wildlife # of images: 1 | Synopsis: A backyard setup shoot of some of my regular birds on a rather cloudy day. It was more of an experimental shoot with my new D500 paired with 70-200mm lens, seeing how close I could get to the birds in my Doghouse Blind. I used one of my Dogwood 'Arctic Fire' shrubs as a background for one of my perches, with some limited success.
