I’m north of Clayton by a few miles at a high spot along Hwy 370
watching a couple areas of cumulus developing to my northwest and
north. I can see a small storm already trying to form over the
mountains to my west… to the southwest of Raton. I’m in a pretty
good area here with 2000-2500 J/kg of surface-based CAPE per SPC
mesoanalysis. Deep layer shear is excellent for supercells. It’s
just a waiting game at this point. No cap bust today, that’s about
99.8% guaranteed — in fact, I could be chasing a storm here in the
next couple hours.

Back home safely in Dodge!. Sunday’s chase was long, but very
rewarding photographically, again. High Plains visibility and contrast
comes through again. I chased storms from Calhan, CO allllll the way
back east to Wakeeney, KS by late evening! Back to work tomorrow. Will
get a few images and a short account from Sunday’s chase posted on my
blog Monday evening.
